McAlpine terminology

Definition

A system of naming parts of a Diptera introduced by J.F. McAlpine in the chapter “Morphology and terminology - adults” in the “Manual of Neararctic Diptera”1). See figures of the thorax

Comment

This system is used extensively in American literature, and increasingly in recent European keys and papers.
