Eristalis cryptarum - Bog hoverfly

Eristalis cryptarum Name: Eristalis cryptarum (Fabricius, 1794)

Family: Syrphidae

Common name: Bog hoverfly

Dartmoor currently; previously south-west England

Seepages and perhaps swamps with diverse vegetation, circum-neutral to slightly acid, lightly to moderately grazed. On Dartmoor, the species appears to rely on seepages within rhos pasture grassland and moorland edge that are not too acidic.
