Several ID's needed

First of all a Happy New Year to one and all.
Also my apologies for simply coming onto the forum and requesting ID's - I'm beginning to get my head around hoverflies but everything else is frankly way over my head.
I'm of an age where trying to learn one type of fly is as much as my three remaining brain cells can cope with.
I have quite a number of photographs that are simply labelled fly-00001 etc and I realise the difficulty in getting an ID down to species level is very difficult from photos so family would suffice if that is all that is possible.
Is it OK if I post say half a dozen or so at a time?? It will take a bit to get through them.
If you feel I am taking the water then please let me know.

Re: Several ID's needed

The tachinid (3) is very likely Lypha dubia.

Re: Several ID's needed

Although I am not able to comment on identifications I would like to commend you on the quality of your pictures (and your use of the [IMG] tags to link to the external images to circumvent the DFf Web Site limit on file size).

Re: Several ID's needed

Thanks Stephane.
Ken having run photo forums for 12 years the img tag holds no fear for me smile smile smile
It's the way I add all my hover photos to the HRS site also.

Re: Several ID's needed

I quite agree about the excellent pictures. Perhaps some day I shall discover what an img tag is!

Re: Several ID's needed

Howard adding img tags is easy though you do need to have your images online somewhere.
The simplest way to do it is to right click on the image you wish to post and select Copy image location.
This is then pasted between opening and closing img tags.

Code:

[img]image location[/img]

example
[img]http://northeastwildlife.co.uk/gallery/albums/fauna/flies/tachinid/ursina/tachina_ursina-00059.jpg[/img]

The result would be
http://northeastwildlife.co.uk/gallery/albums/fauna/flies/tachinid/ursina/tachina_ursina-00059.jpg

Re: Several ID's needed

Ian Andrews kindly drew my attention to this post.  I agree with the above comments. The two anthomyiids are possibly 5. Paradelia intersecta Mg. male or P. brunneonigra Schnabl, and 6. Lasiomma seminitidum Zett. male. The first is based on the large hypopygium, and the second on the presence of 4 katepisternal setae.  Not often one can see these setae in a ''whole fly' photo!
