Hoverfly?

Not sure if this is a hoverfly? Seen 12/08/2015 in Derbyshire.

Re: Hoverfly?

Hi Jon - it would suggest Cheilosia sp.

Generally hairy ( including eyes which I think I can see on pics), orange on tibia. and a possible stigma shading on forewing. Almost Cheilosia grossa - but that is very much a Spring fly.

I am sure Roger over on Hoverfly Recording Scheme can give a far more informed opinion

Regards, Neil

Re: Hoverfly?

This is C. vulpina. Much too late for grossa. Vulpina has a rather stocky build (like proxima) but the longer hairs on the tergites help to confirm it.
