ID help please

I'm struggling to find a name for the attached beast. It was about 10 to 12mm long and flew noisily. It was by Eyebrook Reservoir, Leics with cows grazing nearby. Can somebody please help?

Re: ID help please

It's an Eristalis sp. (hoverfly) but I think we need to see the front half to know which species - looks like tenax or pertenax. Front feet and the face are important for the ID.

Re: ID help please

Thanks Chris

It departed before I could move round to the front end so no other images.

I have to admit that I thought "hoverfly" but don't have enough or even any experience.

Checking images on the web now, though, it looks more like E. tenax.

I'll log it as Eristalis sp. and hope to find it again.

Phil

Re: ID help please

It is Eristalis tenax...it has the dark, thickened hind tibiae of the species.
