This species was very common all along the heavily overgrown margins of the Leete chalk stream at Barton, Bedfordshire on 13 May2011. I think it is a Limoniidae species but at 9-10mm total body length it is smaller than those (admittedly few!) that I have previously seen from this family. I have retained the specimen but would be grateful if anyone can confirm whether or not I have the family correct and possibly suggest a species identification.
Many thanks

This posting has also received no responses since I posted it on 15 May 2011 but I still hope someone might perhaps be able to make a suggestion so have resurrrected it to the top of the pile! I do have the specimen.
Many thanks

Alan,
This looks a good match for Limonia phragmitidis, but if you have the specimen and are able to get a photo showing the wing venation more clearly that would help confirm it.

Very many thanks Martin. I am really pleased that 're-invigourating' this post produced a response and grateful for your suggestion. Here is a close up from the specimen, which hopefully will show wing venation adequately, but if not I will try again.
Thank you again.
