I couldnt find my issue of the forum mag which discussed the availabiltly of cheap ring flashes designed for cameras used as microscope light.
On amazon quite a few camera 48 leds for about 30 quid this compares with 90 odd quid for specially designed 52 leds for microscope.
has anyone had experience of using the camera leds please recommend them?

If you want a ringlight for microscope use then the 144 led versions on ebay for less than £50 are very good. They come with mounts suitable for most stereo microscopes. They are sourced from Hong Kong, but I have found the suppliers to be reliable.
These are mains powered and so are not suitable for camera use in the field, but would be suitable for macro work on camera in the home/laboratory.

I have no experience of these, although I did hear that the Nikon one for the old Coolpix 4500 gave a necklace effect on reflective surfaces unless diffused, but it had few LEDs.
There was a discussion on the Yahoo Shieldbugs forum that sounds relevant (I think you have to be a member of the group to read the messages).
