New member. ID please
Hi there. I'm a lowly Biology undergraduate student so I can't claim to be any kind of expert on Diptera, but I am keen to find out the ID of this fly, which appeared on my window ledge a couple of days ago, as I'd never seen one like it before. It was mainly due to the odd, solid-bordered wings that it caught my attention. It held them out perpendicular to its body, occasionally slowly lifting them and then returning them to their original position. It moved very slowly and seemed very reluctant to fly away when I poked a camera in its face - obviously not camera shy!

nice photo, Andy. One for our 'living flies' section of the gallery? It is not easy to catch fly behaviour and this shows it beautifully.
