Hello
Looking on the database for Tachina magnicornis I came up with Phryxe magnicornis.
Is Phryxe magnicornis now the accepted name for this species? I noticed it was in sub-family Exoristinae slightly un-expected, perhaps it was moved from Sub Family Tachininae for some reason (see http://www.faunaeur.org/full_results.php?id=144880)
Hope you can help
Elisabeth

They are two different species: http://www.faunaeur.org/full_results.php?id=145150 and http://www.faunaeur.org/full_results.php?id=144880.

I don't think T. maginicornis is on the UK checklist? Perhaps that explains why you can't fnd it? Have a look at the UK Tachinids website to see if it mentions T maginicornis.

Fauna Europaea does not mention T. machnicornis for the UK...

Sorry for reviving an old thread but Tachina magnicornis is not a UK species - yet, but that doesn't mean that I don't look out for it. According to Theo Zeegers we should be wary of "T.fera" on sandy habitats. ![]()
Phryxe magnicornis is of course a different species - one of the rarer Phryxe spp. ![]()

Is T. magnicornis in your draft key? If not, what distinguishes it from T. fera?
