Just one cornetto? Please identify.

Please help!  I need to accurately identify this fella before the photo can be reproduced.  I can't seem to find a diptera reference matching his brown colour/close eye spacing/long 'nose' description.  I would be very grateful for your opinion.   Thank you.

it looks abit like one of the hoverflies of the genus rhingia

Well, thank you both - Paul and Andy.  That's brilliant!  I am surprised.  From where I was standing it just didn't look like a hoverfly.
