Summer field meeting to the Cairngorms

This happened between 28th June and 5th July and was based in the excellent accommodation provided by Glenmore Lodge, near Aviemore in Scotland.
It was extremely successful. This mountain area is stunningly beautiful and we were very lucky with the weather, a few showers but no heavy rain meant collecting was possible every day and it was hot towards the end of the week.  Habitats ranged from the extensive Insh Marshes and  banks and shingle fans of the River Spey, through bogs and ancient pine, birch and aspen forest to above the tree line on exposed heather moorland, even up to the snow patches. Collecting at the higher levels was a little hampered by windy conditions, but we have high hopes that the flies achieved from here will be of great interest.  There were certainly many exciting flies in the lower habitats.

It was a great social occasion as well.  A large group of people attended and all had a good time - just look at the happy faces in the gallery photos!

Re: Summer field meeting to the Cairngorms

I am green with envy. I hope to go on next year's jaunt.
