Request for Tabanidae publication

I would like to obtain a (paper, electronic or "separate") copy of the following :

GOFFE, E.R. 1931.
British Tabanidae (Diptera). With an account of the principal variation. With descriptions of a number of new forms and of some additions to the British list.
Transactions of the Entomological Society of the South of England 6(1930):43-114, 2 pls.

Nothing on AbeBooks.

Any ideas ?

Many thanks.

Re: Request for Tabanidae publication

I have a copy of this and could scan it for you if you really need it, but it would be a long job for me  (35 double A5 pages). However, I question whether you would find it useful. It is hopelessly out of date in taxonomy and British species distribution - useless for identifying currently known / understood species. To identify current UK species you should get Stubbs & Drake "British Soldierflies and Their Allies" of which a second edition was published just last year.

Re: Request for Tabanidae publication

Hi Malcolm,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I was aware of the shortfalls of the publication, but having recently become interested in Tabanidae, just fancied reading it out of "general and historical interest".

Please do not "go to the trouble" of "scanning it" !

I already have copies of Stubbs and Drake, Oldroyd, Provisional Atlas, British Blood-Sucking Flies and Chavala, Lyneborg and Moucha.

All the best.

Stuart.

Re: Request for Tabanidae publication

I would suggest that you might find it interesting to look at Verrall's scholarly work "British Flies" Vol 5 (1909) which was the first British book covering Tabanidae and written by a dedicated Dipterist. Even Verrall had very different interpretation of some species. However, goffe seems to have been obsessed with treating Diptera like Lepidoptera.

Thanks Malcolm,

Just by chance, I "found" that (superbly detailed !) work last week available as an "online download" and will be "printing off" the section dealing with Tabanidae.

(Pemberley also have a nice copy for sale at £140 !)

Cheers. Stuart.
