Ptychopterid species

Another from my backlog of unresolved species from last year is this Ptychopterid species from Duck End NR Beds on 26 April. It may perhaps just be P. contaminata but I would welcome confirmation or contradiction of this. I do have the specimen.

Many thanks

Re: Ptychopterid species

Difficult to say without seeing the wings more clearly, and even then it may require genitalia examination if it isn't P. contaminata. The wing markings don't look strong enough for contaminata but that may just be because they can't be seen from this angle.

Many thanks Martin. Here is a close-up of the wing from the specimen which I hope will be more revealing than it was in life.

Re: Ptychopterid species

I think that confirms it isn't P. contaminata, which means that checking the genitalia is necessary. If you can get a good close-up of the tip of the abdomen I might be able to go further.

Re: Ptychopterid species

Either paludosa or lacustris I'd say (former the more frequent of the two),

Re: Ptychopterid species

My apologies that I realise that this was left rather hanging between P. paludosa and P. lacustris and I note that Martin requested a close up of the abdomen. I don't know if this is adequate but I do still have the specimen

Many thanks
