As indicated in my previous postings I am very much a novice so far as flies are concerned. Using the limited literature that I have available to me I would identify this as Pollenia rudis – Cluster Fly. However I do not know if there may be similar species and do want to make sure that I have the identification correct both for the record and for labelling the image. Photographed from Flitwick Mooor, Beds 07 Jul 2010.
Thank you

Pollenia is correct, but I doubt that a species ID can be provided based on these images. Wing actual specimens I might have a go at it. ![]()

Thank you Paul. I do have the specimen and another, possibly the same, but from another site, as well as a few other photographed Calliphorids (4 I think) if you (or anyone else) would be willing to look at them.

I will give the opportunity for someone in Britain to vollunteer to examine the specimens and thus save you sending a package across the Channel/Northsea.

Howard Bentley has kindly examined this specimen for me and reports that this is Pollenia angustigena ♂. Thank you again Howard.
