The species with the plump orange abdomen was from beside the River Ivel, Clifton, Bds on 05 Jul 2010. I think it is perhaps Beris vallata.
The dark species was from Flitwick Moor Bedfordshire on 06 Jul 2010 and I think also possibly Beris, perhaps B. fuscipes.
Any suggestions or comments are welcome.
Many thanks

3 and 4 do appear to be Beris vallata, but I wouldn't like to say that's certain without seeing the specimen.

Many thanks to you both. I was certainly a long way off with the Chrysogaster. I said I was a novice!
I do have the specimen of the possible Beris vallata if you (or anyone else) would be prepared to look at it Howard.
Many thanks

Howard Bentley has kindly examined my specimen of this and confirms that it is indeed Beris valata. Thank you again Howard.
