Lough Neagh Fly

Does anyone know the identity of the Lough Neagh fly? Or is it a mythical beast?

Re: Lough Neagh Fly

It's a chironomid. There's a picture at

but I can't find the species name anywhere, and I'm afraid chironomids defeat me. Perhaps someone else will recognise it.

Howard.

Re: Lough Neagh Fly

Thank you for that, Howard. No need for the species - I am expecting some droppings from swifts and house martins feeding over Lough Neagh. It will be interesting to see whether both species feed from swarms of such small fry.
